To the north is Lake Jennings which offers camping for tents or RVs, picnicking, boating, and hiking. This lake has some of the best fishing in the region with 37,000 pounds of channel catfish and trout stocked each year.

Because El Cajon is surrounded by mountains and situated in a valley, it got its name from the Spanish word meaning “the box.” This is also the home of Taylor Guitars, the nation’s number one acoustic guitar manufacturer. Notable residents include several major league baseball players, musician Frank Zappa, Olympic diver Greg Louganis, motocross racer Rick Johnson, and television producer James Wong.
